Tools in hand, rules still on the way: ANIMAS's role in AI standards and ecosystem

Companies are developing AI tools at their discretion and without a unified standard. The tools are already in the hands of people, but the "rulebook" is still being written. Latvia can choose: to either follow the rules created by others or help write them.

Standards. MILA has joined the Standardization Technical Committee LVS/STK 59 "Artificial Intelligence", and the association is represented by ANIMAS director, MILA co-founder, and council member Gatis Romanovskis. At the Latvian Standard's workshop "Standardization for New Technologies", Gatis demonstrated that rules exist for each AI model, but they can be circumvented. AI is not self-regulating – trust requires clear rules, oversight, and accountability.

Innovation policy. At the European Investment Bank, LIAA, and PwC Latvia workshop "Rethinking innovation priorities in Latvia", Gatis represented MILA's view on the importance of AI in the innovation ecosystem and the prerequisites for the development of internationally competitive technology companies.

International visibility. At the LTRK Diplomat Club, Gatis introduced foreign ambassadors and economic attachés to the development of AI in Latvia. The stronger the ecosystem, the more opportunities for Latvian companies, researchers, and innovations to reach an international scale.
